Faridkot, A portion of the prison cell where Jahawarlal Nehru and other freedom fighters were lodged for a day in 1923 during the Jaitu Morcha in Punjab's Faridkot district has caved in owing to heavy rains, the police said on Thursday.

The cell, adjacent to the Jaitu police station, was in shambles for decades and was visited by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in 2008.

Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said his government would take to its logical conclusion the CBI's failure to further investigate the Bargari sacrilege cases against three followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda.

Reacting to the Shiromani Akali Dal's (SAD) decision to challenge the CBI closure in the Bargari cases, the Chief Minister lashed out at its President Sukhbir Badal for trying to "fool" the people by pretending to be concerned about the issue.

New Delhi, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday asked the Central government to dedicate the second AIIMS in the state to Guru Nanak Dev whose 550th birth anniversary is in November.

He raised the issue during his meeting with Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan here.

The latter sought a detailed proposal from the state in this regard, a statement by the state government said.

New Delhi,  Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday said he was yet to receive any proposal from the Central government for establishment of atomic energy units at the Bathinda and Ropar power plants.

At the same time, the Chief Minister said he had never had any problems working with the Centre.

Cordial relations between the Central and state governments were important in a federal structure, and he had no issues dealing with any government at the Centre in the interest of Punjab, he told reporters here.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly, (LoP), Harpal Singh Cheema, has questioned the roll back orders of the government on the use of red beacon on government vehicles in the state, stating that the culture had given goose bumps to the law-enforcing agencies and unmerited harassment to the public at large.

Saying he has not seen the content of Sidhu's resignation letter, the Chief Minister said that "there should be some discipline".

Chandigarh, Sukhpal Singh Khaira Bholath MLA and President of Punjab Ekta Party(PEP) today alleged that Central Bureau Investigation(CBI) has filed closure report in the Mohali CBI court in two cases of sacrilege registered against dera sacha sauda followers under pressure from BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD).

In a statement issued here Khaira said that BJP was hell bent to appease dera leaders with an eye on dera support during assembly elections in Haryana later this year. He said that SIT of Punjab Police led by DIG Ranjit Singh Khatra had established role of dera followers in the sacrilege cases but the then Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had shifted the two cases from Punjab police to CBI in an apparent bid to save the accused. Badal knew that his party would not return to power and took the decision when assembly elections were close.

Chandigarh, The rift between Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and his Cabinet colleague Navjot Singh Sidhu deepened on Sunday, when the latter resigned as Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy Sources.

"I hereby resign as Minister from the Punjab Cabinet," the former-cricketer-turned politician wrote in his resignation letter. Posting the letter on Twitter, Sidhu tweeted: "My letter to the Congress President Shri. Rahul Gandhi Ji, submitted on 10 June, 2019."

Chandigarh, Patiala MP and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's wife, Preneet Kaur, fainted at a plastic cleanup campaign in her constituency on Saturday, officials said.

Kaur, 75, collapsed as she arrived at the event to flag off the Swachhta Shramdan drive to clean up plastic.

She got her blood pressure checked and that was fine, a doctor told IANS.
