Chandigarh, Punjab's State Election Commission has made all arrangements for the smooth conduct of municipal polls on Sunday.

The ruling Congress, main opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance are contesting the polls December 17.

Consistent efforts are afoot for effective disposal of pending revenue cases and the court proceedings are being conducted on regular basis for their speedy disposal, informed an official spokesperson of Government of Punjab.

He informed that in the interest of justice and equity Chief Minister Punjab sought speedy adjudication and disposal of revenue cases. In wake of staggering pendency of revenue cases and their tardy disposal rate, Chief Minister desired orientation of the revenue courts for speedy disposal, said he.

Chandigarh,- Union food processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today said the vision of former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in attracting investment to Punjab, including that in the food sector, was bearing fruit with the Rs 1500 crore ITC food park which was conceived and approved by the former SAD-BJP government, finally being inaugurated yesterday.In a statement here, Mrs Badal said the ITC project came about due the proactive approach of the former deputy CM who took up this project vigorously with ITC Chairman Y C Deveshwar. She said this was the second big project to be inaugurated during Congress rule. "Earlier the Rs 300 crore new tractor plant unit of Sonalika in Hoshiarpur, which was also approved as part of the Invest Punjab programme by the earlier SAD- BJP government, was also inaugurated shortly after the new Congress government took over the reins of the State", she added.

Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday ruled out any rollback on the decision to provide power to the industry at a subsidised rate of Rs five per unit.

The decision has already been taken by the state government and ratified by the Cabinet, he said, setting at rest all apprehensions of any change in this regard.

Chandigarh, With a bumper crop, Punjab and Haryana have procured over 250 lakh tonnes of paddy so far this year, officials from the Food and Supplies Department said here on Monday.

Punjab has procured nearly 179 lakh tonnes of paddy while Haryana saw an arrival of 71.21 lakh tonnes, which is the highest ever.
