Modi attended the 350th birth anniversary celebrations of the Guru in Patna on January 5, 2017. He had released a commemorative postage stamp to mark the occasion.

Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday said the ball was totally in the Centre's court regarding the execution of the project for the Kartarpur corridor in Dera Baba Nanak area in Gurdaspur district.

Accusing the leadership of the Shiromani Akali Dal of "playing games" on the Kartarpur corridor issue, the Chief Minister said that it was the central government which had to take steps and release funds for the execution of the project in Punjab.

Chandigarh, Dense foggy conditions in Punjab have forced the education department to change the timings of all schools in the state.

Education Minister O.P. Soni said the move was made to ensure that children were kept safe from intense fog and harsh weather conditions.

The new timings would be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for all the primary schools and 10 a.m. to 4.15 p.m. for all the middle, high and senior secondary schools.

Chandigarh, Hundreds of devotees thronged the Golden Temple complex in Punjab and other shrines in the region despite the biting cold to offer prayers early on Tuesday to usher in the New Year.

At the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, around 250 km from here, hundreds of devotees queued up since midnight to offer prayers.

Long queues could be seen on Tuesday morning with people waiting for their turn to offer prayers inside the 'Harmandir Sahib', the sanctum sanctorum.

Chandigarh, Cold wave conditions intensified in most parts of Punjab and Haryana on Saturday with Adampur town in Punjab recording a freezing minus 1.7 degree Celsius, Met officials said.

While Hisar town with a low of 0.3 degree was the coldest in Haryana the Sikh holy city of Amritsar recorded a low of 0.8 degree Celsius, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

Mata Gujri ji was the wife of the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji and the mother of the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, and the grandmother of the four Sahibzade.

She was born in 1624 and was the daughter of Bhai Lal Chand Subulikka and Bishan Kaur, a pious couple of Kartarpur, in present-day Kapurthala district of the Punjab. Her role in the development of the Sikh faith has been crucial.

Chandigarh, A festive spirit marked Christmas celebrations across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on Tuesday as thousands of people visited churches to offer prayers and did some last-minute shopping.

In Chandigarh, the Sector 19 Cathedral and other churches were beautifully decorated with hundreds of people joining in singing of Christmas carols and offering prayers since Monday evening.

Reports of celebrations also came in from Amritsar, Batala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Patiala and Bathinda, among other places.

New Delhi, The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) will import an ultra modern fully computerized offset printing press to print copies of the Sikh holy scripture Guru Granth Sahib ji.

In a bid to keep pace with the latest printing technology in the world, the new eco-friendly "CO2 neutral" four-colour printing machine is being imported from German firm Heidelberg for Rs 8 crore.

A new three-storied fully air-conditioned printing press complex "Granth Sahib Bhawan" is being built at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib complex at the cost of around Rs 2.5 crore for installing the new machine. The construction work is likely to be completed by April 2019.
