On the pattern of the Delhi government, the UT administration is planning to impose additional cess on liquor (corona fee), petrol and diesel. The aim behind this move is to generate revenue, especially during the lockdown period when revenue sources have reduced.
A senior UT official, who is working on this proposal, said discussions on imposing additional cess took place in a meeting of senior UT officials on Tuesday. In a day or two, they will finalise the plan and accordingly will impose the cess on liquor, petrol and diesel, he added.
In an official statement, UT finance secretary AK Sinha, AK Sinha, stated that keeping in view the reduced sources of revenue, some additional cess could be considered.
