Digital degree project to control fake degrees racket:-HRD Minister

A delegation of All India Federation of Self Financing Colleges Association (AIFSFTI) under the leadership of Chief Patron, Sri R S Munirathinam and President, Dr. Anshu Kataria has met with Sh. Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD). Dr. M.P Poonia, Vice Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi was also present.

Delegations from around 15 different States from all across the Country including Mr. Amit Sharma, Vice President & CA, Manmohan Garg, Treasurer from Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) also participated in this meeting.

While highlighting the problems being faced by small self financing colleges, Dr. Anshu Kataria seeks immediate intervention of HRD Minister in the regulatory mechanism. He demanded the level playing field for all type of Institutions including Private Universities, Deemed Universities, Self financed Colleges etc. Kataria also expressed his concern over the fake degrees racket in the Country.

Javadekar assured the delegation that Government has already implemented digital degree project under which the enrollment would be made with the Adhaar Card number of the pupil so that the record of degrees issued can be kept in loop of UGC, MHRD and other authorities.

Javadekar further said that with the implementation of digital degree project the full record of the curriculum including nomenclature of the course, duration, marks, details of the pupil etc would be made accessible to the concerned.

Javadekar also highlighted that to improve the quality of education and to bring more digitalization in education system, his ministry is taking new initiatives including SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds), MOOC (Massive open online course) etc.

Sh. R S Munirathinam, Chief Patron while discussing about faculty ratio said that KAW committee has recommended faculty ratio as 1:25, where in AICTE, the prescribed ratio is 1:15. Munirathinam requested HRD to consider the request of KAW committee and fix the faculty ratio as 1:25.

Javadekar assured that Government would soon look into the matters to save the self financed Institutions of the Country.

Sri Srini Bhupalam (Telangana), Sri Panduranga Shetty (Karnataka), Sri Pradeep Kumar(Haryana), Sri P Selvaraj (Tamil Nadu), Mr. Lalit Aggarwal (Delhi), Sri K V K Rao (Andhra Pradesh), Sh. T D Esawara Moorthy (Tamil Nadu), Sh. K G Madhu (Kerala), Sh. Rajeev Chand (Maharastra), Sh. Shridhar Singh (Rajastan), Sh. V K Verma (Madhya Pradesh), Sh. Sridhar (Andhra Pradesh) etc were also present in the meeting.
