Governor Punjab inaugurated Mega Cancer Awareness Camp

V. P. Singh Badnore, Governor Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh today inaugurated Mega Cancer Awareness Camp organized jointly by the Amrit Cancer Foundation and World Cancer Care Charitable Trust at IMA complex here today.
While addressing the gathering after inaugurating the camp, the Governor expressed concern over the rise of cancer patients in the country. He said that there was an urgent need to launch a massive cancer awareness campaign in order to make people conscious about this disease. He said that the research has established that if detected at the first stage cancer could be cured. He also asked the people to go in for a vegetarian and organic diet and use maximum herbs like turmeric etc. regularly because herbs have medicinal properties which can naturally cure many diseases from within human body.
He also said that the patients belonging to the BPL families in Punjab have been given the financial assistance under State Illness Fund. Under Mukh Mantri Cancer Rahat Kosh Society an amount of Rs. 20 Crore has also been made available by the state government for the cancer patients besides providing an amount upto Rs. 1.50 Lakhs for cancer treatment.
The Governor has also asked the Amrit Cancer Foundation and World Cancer Care Charitable Trust to send him a proposal to utilize the government dispensaries lying unused in the rural areas around Chandigarh.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. H.S. Sabharwal said that this was the first NGO in the Northern region which was carrying out all the expensive tests free of cost. He also informed that 5 Special Mobile Screening Buses fully equipped with latest machines for detecting test like Mammography, PAPsmear, PSA, oral cancer detect test have also been deployed on the spot. These vehicles are specially fabricated by a U.K. Trust. Cancer Awareness Video was also screened and leaflets on the same were distributed. He told that a team of 20 dedicated doctors have participate, a cancer detection awareness talk on the occasion.
More than 5 thousand people were screened during the camp.
