Pathankot sacrilege attempt could have links with Bargari sacrilege -Akali Dal

Chandigarh, The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said an attempted sacrilege attempt at Pathankot few days back could have links with the Bargari sacrilege and should be investigated properly to uncover its perpetrators.

In a statement here, SAD spokesman Virsa Singh Valtoha said a sacrilege incident on par with what happened at Bargari village in Faridkot district in 2016 had been averted with it being revealed that a woman had stolen two ‘swaroops’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji from Channi Tola village in Pathankot district last week.

The Akali leader said the woman was caught because she was captured while taking out the ‘birs’ beneath her shawl from the village gurdwara. Subsequently both ‘birs’ were recovered from her residence. While one had been hidden in a trunk the other has been put in a makeshift storehouse for storing wheat grains.

Mr Valtoha said this incident made it amply clear that like in the case of the Bargari sacrilege, anti-Punjab forces were still trying to disturb the peace in Punjab and create communal tension by indulging in sacrilege cases. He demanded that the government form a special task force to inquire into the Pathankot incident and verify whether its perpetrators were the same who had indulged in the Bargari sacrilege. He said it was unfortunate that the government was treating the incident lightly and had not even tried to trace the motives behind it till now
