Punjab government issues advisory against disclosing name of sexual abuse victims in media

The Punjab Government has released an advisory to state media groups against revealing the identity of any child who suffers from sexual abuse. This is in keeping with the directions of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Disclosing this, an official spokesman of the Department of Social Security & Women and Child Development said that the Member Secretary of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights vide a letter written to the state government has asked the latter to not disclose identity of any victim of sexual abuse in any media in accordance with section 23 POSCO Act, 2012 and Juvenile Justice Act 2015.

Divulging more, the spokesman said that the rationale behind the advisory is to make sure that the victim child, who has already been through psychological and physical trauma of the extreme kind, doesn't undergoes the tribulation all over again.

The spokesman also said that intimation regarding this has been sent to all the Heads of Department and Deputy Commissioners to accord priority to ensure that the direction is complied with in letter and spirit.
