Jalandhar-Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab dealt a major blow to the Shiromani Akali Dal ahead of Jalandhar west by-poll. The SAD candidate for Jalandhar west Surjit Kaur left her previous party and joined the Aam Aadmi Party along with her entire family and a large group of supporters.
AAP Punjab President CM Bhagwant Mann officially inducted Surjit Kaur and her family to the AAP and said that he wholeheartedly welcomes leaders like her to the AAP family. Bhagwant Mann said that Surjit Kaur and her entire family are very religious people who have great empathy for panth, Punjab and Punjabis in their hearts. Her husband Jathedar Pritam Singh also served the people and was also an MC. Surjit Kaur herself is a two time councillor.
Mann said that this family has fought for Punjab and Punjabiyat, they even went to jail to protect the rights of Punjab. Chief Minister Mann said that the AAP is very fortunate to be the first and only choice of the people who want to serve Punjab and Punjabis. He welcomed Surjit Kaur to the team 'Rangla Punjab'. Mann also said that the condition of Akali Dal is miserable today, it is very unfortunate that after announcing Surjit Kaur their candidate they refused her any support. Like always they are putting their personal selfish agendas above the people and Punjab.
AAP leaders also addressed a press conference in Jalandhar on Tuesday to formally welcome Surjit Kaur to the AAP. In this press conference minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, AAP Jalandhar west candidate Mohinder Bhagat and AAP's Jalandhar Lok Sabha candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu were present.

Addressing the media Pawan Kumar Tinu said that Surjit Kaur's joining will give the AAP a massive boost in Jalandhar West by-election. Her support will strengthen our winning position. Tinu said that Surjit Kaur's husband Jathedar Pritam Singh served the people of Jalandhar and worked tirelessly for the Panth. Tinu said that everyone is aware of the condition of Shiromani Akali Dal today and it is hopeless. On the other hand the Aam Aadmi Party government is taking Punjab forward on the path of progress and development.

Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said that Jathedar Pritam Singh ji had served this area religiously, politically and socially, he was also the councillor in the city council and Bibi Surjit Kaur ji is also a two time councillor. The AAP leader said that the Mann government is doing unprecedented work in Punjab, the people and leaders are supporting us. The joining of Surjit Kaur ji and her family to the AAP is a matter of great happiness and encouragement for our party. He said that this family will get deserving respect and responsibility in the AAP organisation as well as the government. He added that the AAP candidate Mohinder Bhagat will win the Jalandhar west seat by a huge margin.

On this occasion, Surjit Kaur thanked CM Bhagwant Mann for welcoming her to the Aam Aadmi Party and said that she took a decision for Jalandhar west and its people. She said that the people come to her for help and regarding their works, but Sukhbir Badal has denied her candidature and any kind of help. So she took a step towards a party which is working for the common people and Chief minister Bhagwant Mann is working for the development of every area of Punjab.

AAP candidate Mohinder Bhagat said that Jathedar Pritam Singh ji was a big Akali leader who had an important place in Akali Dal. Today Bibi Surjit Kaur ji has left Akali Dal and joined the Aam Aadmi Party after seeing CM Bhagwant Mann's policies and his work. He thanked her and welcomed her to the AAP. He said that her support and experience will help him a great deal in Jalandhar west by-poll.
