Washington, Nov 2 (IANS) – During a recent Diwali celebration at the State Department, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the festival's profound message about the importance of caring for one another. He remarked that Diwali symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and encourages compassion and understanding, stating, “At its core, Diwali is about the idea that light will push back against darkness.”
Blinken noted how Diwali serves as a reminder of the rich contributions of South Asian culture to the U.S., highlighting prominent figures such as Vice President Kamala Harris and World Bank President Ajay Banga. He acknowledged the unique sense of community fostered by Diwali celebrations, recalling his own experiences in India.
Additionally, he humorously mentioned the overlap of Diwali with Halloween this year, leading to the playful concept of "Diwalloween" parties in the U.S.
This celebration underscores the diverse cultural fabric of America and the lessons of unity and care that Diwali represents, resonating well beyond the South Asian community .
