Sydney, Nov 13 – A man in Melbourne, Victoria, was arrested after allegedly shooting at police officers and engaging in a prolonged standoff. According to a Victoria Police statement, the incident began on Tuesday afternoon when police monitored a vehicle believed to be stolen. The armed driver reportedly exited the vehicle and fired at officers before taking refuge in a house in Weir Views, approximately 35 km west of Melbourne.
Inside the residence were an unrelated man and a toddler, both of whom managed to exit unharmed following police negotiations with the suspect. During a subsequent exchange of gunfire, police deployed a dog to assist in the arrest. The suspect sustained a dog bite and was taken to a hospital under police guard.
No police officers were injured, and an investigation into the events is ongoing.
