KCGC Takes Out Mega-Nagar Kirtan to Commemorate 555th Guru Nanak’s Parkash Purab

 Amritsar-Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) today organized a mega Nagar Kirtan to commemorate 555th Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Thousands of students from KCGC institutions took out the march from historic Khalsa College campus to Golden Temple, amidst colourful presentations, marked with religious fervor and devotion.

The students from all 21 institutions including Khalsa University, Colleges and schools exhibited a well-orchestrated procession. They formed queues, chanted holy hymns from Gurbani and paraded through various parts of the city to reach Sri Harmandar Sahib.

 The procession was led by Sri Guru Granth Sahib, placed in the well-decorated palanquin, accompanied by `Panj Payaras’ (five beloveds) and participants clad in colourful dresses, reciting hymns and slogans of `Bole So Nihal’, ‘Nanak Aya, Jagat Jagaya’. On the way, the display of Gatkas (Sikh martial art), music of the bands, PT Shows and beating of the drums was witnessed as the students passed through GT Road, Putlighar, Sadar, Railway Station, Bhandari Bridge, Hall gate and Town Hall.

 Khalsa University Pro-Chancellor and KCGC honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, VC Dr.Mehal Singh, Deans, Office-bearers, Members, Principals, Teaching and Non-teaching staff took part in the parade enthusiastically. Chhina who congratulated one and all on the occasion of Gurpurab said Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message of peace, universal brotherhood and welfare of one and all was most relevant in strife torn world today.

“The divisions in the society on the basis of caste and creed were something Guru fought against. He called for the welfare of mankind. We must follow the message of peaceful co-existence, without discrimination, as envisaged by Guru Ji”, said Chhina adding that as per the Khalsa management’s traditions, they organized the Nagar Kirtan, one of the largest of its kind anywhere, on the pious occasion of Gurpurab.
