Chandigarh- The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab leaders staged protests across the state on Friday against Home Minister Amit Shah's derogatory remarks about the architect of the Constitution, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, in Parliament. AAP leaders strongly condemned Amit Shah's statement, calling it an insult to the Constitution's creator.
District leaders, office bearers, MLAs, and ministers of AAP, along with hundreds of party workers, staged demonstrations outside BJP's district headquarters in Jalandhar, Pathankot, Bathinda, Mansa, Ludhiana, Faridkot, Moga, and other cities. They submitted memorandums to the respective Deputy Commissioners against Amit Shah and also burned his effigies while raising slogans against him.
In the memorandum, the party termed Amit Shah's remarks as an insult to the nation's democracy, the Constitution, and its architect. They demanded that the central government take action against the Home Minister and remove him from the cabinet. AAP leaders also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of harboring hatred towards Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and the Constitution, alleging that the BJP-led central government aims to dismantle the Constitution created by Baba Saheb.
The protests by AAP leaders and workers across districts against Amit Shah's remarks reflect widespread anger and resentment among the public. The Aam Aadmi Party has ensured the display of pictures of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh in all government offices in Delhi and Punjab. The party's national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, considers Baba Saheb his political ideal. He has been raising his voice against Amit Shah's statement at the national level and demanding action against him.
Speaking to various media outlets during the protest, AAP leaders said that Amit Shah, through his statement, has not only insulted Bhimrao Ambedkar but has also disrespected the entire Dalit community.
Dr. Ambedkar gave political and social rights to the oppressed and exploited people of society through the Constitution and empowered them economically. Amit Shah's statement has caused despair among the country's Dalit community. The BJP must clarify its stance on this issue and immediately apologize to the Dalit community.
An AAP leader from Jalandhar said that it is extremely unfortunate that the country's Home Minister mocked Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, in Parliament. Nothing could be more tragic than this.
The BJP wants to destroy the Constitution because it fears Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's ideology. The BJP also hates the Dalit community and is a party that supports Manusmriti.
