High Court rejects petition claiming that Delhi is not getting water

Chandigarh-–The Delhi High Court today dismissed an application claiming that Delhi is not receiving water as per the court's order, and it is an urgent and important matter related to water for Delhi. This ruling dealt a significant blow to the Delhi government, which had repeatedly alleged that the Haryana government was not providing the agreed-upon water supply. However, the Haryana government presented evidence in court, confirming that it is supplying the required amount of water in full compliance with all agreements and court orders, with no shortfall on its part. This issue was previously addressed by the Supreme Court in June of last year, when a writ petition filed by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi was rejected.

The submissions on behalf of the Haryana government stated that the original writ petition had already been disposed of, and the contempt petition was baseless from the time of filing, continuing to be without merit. It was also stated that the writ petition filed by the Government of NCT of Delhi had been dismissed by the Supreme Court, with its order already submitted before this Court.

Senior Additional Advocate General, Lokesh Sinhal, and Aditya Sharma, appearing for the Haryana government, argued that the case amounted to an abuse of legal process and lacked any merit, urging for its dismissal. They also requested that the main contempt petition be scheduled for final hearing. In response, the Court rejected today’s application and directed that the contempt petition be listed for final hearing
