Chandigarh- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Senior leader and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema highlighted the success of the Punjab Government's anti-drug campaign 'War Against Drugs' (Yudh Nashian Virudh) and shared details of police actions conducted over the last 13 days with the media.

Addressing a press conference related to this campaign at Punjab Bhavan on Thursday, Harpal Cheema stated that the results of the 'War Against Drugs' campaign are highly encouraging and its positive impact can be seen everywhere.

He said this campaign is running very successfully across Punjab. So far, over 81 kg of heroin, more than 51 kg of opium, and more than ₹60 lakh in cash have been recovered. Meanwhile, 1259 FIRs have been registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), and 1759 drug traffickers have been arrested.

Additionally, around 7.5 lakh intoxicating tablets and 970 kg of poppy husk (Bhuki), along with other synthetic drugs, have been seized by the police. Furthermore, properties of around 29 people associated with drug trafficking have been demolished. Cheema said that these individuals had amassed crores of rupees in illegal assets through smuggling.

Cheema asserted that the AAP government is fully committed to eradicating drugs from Punjab. The police are working around the clock and taking action against drug traffickers. He said that no one involved in drugs will be spared this time, and in the coming days, all such individuals will be behind bars.

Cheema stated that unlike previous governments that protected drug traffickers, the AAP government is taking strict action against them. He accused the previous Akali-BJP and Congress governments of conspiring to trap the youth in drug addiction under a well-thought-out plan.

Cheema added that along with action against drug traffickers, the government is also taking several proactive steps. Thousands of awareness meetings have been organized in universities and colleges. Similar programs are also being conducted in villages to increase awareness among people.

Cheema revealed that a cabinet sub-committee of five ministers, led by him, has been working to properly execute this campaign. This committee will hold a meeting in Chandigarh tomorrow (Friday) to discuss and strategize further -actions.
