Gurugram (IANS) - In a significant move, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has completed an extensive survey of 294 illegal colonies, bringing these settlements closer to being regularised. The report, submitted to the government, highlights that these colonies meet new guidelines set forth by the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Department for regularisation, a process that would provide lakhs of residents with basic infrastructure and services like water, roads, sewer systems, and street lighting for the first time. Key Points:
Long-Awaited Legalisation: The ULB Department initially listed these colonies in February 2023 and directed MCG to evaluate them against specific standards. Residents of colonies like Maruti Kunj, Shriram Colony, Saraswati Enclave Extension, and Ashok Vihar Phase-2 may soon see improvements.

Government Guidelines: For legalisation, colonies must feature six-meter-wide roads, cover at least two acres, and must not overlap with any government schemes or agricultural land. MCG has ensured thorough compliance with these criteria.

Eight-Month Survey Completed: MCG’s survey process spanned eight months to comprehensively assess road width, land area, and validity for each colony. The results are now pending government approval.

Enhanced Infrastructure for Residents: Legalisation would mean significant infrastructure upgrades, positively impacting thousands of residents’ daily lives.

Next Steps: The proposal awaits government approval, after which colonies meeting all conditions will be formally regularised.

Potential Impact on Gurugram Residents
Once approved, the regularisation will improve the quality of life for residents, who will finally gain access to essential amenities. With Gurugram’s rapid urban growth, this move will bring several unplanned colonies in line with municipal standards, further contributing to orderly city development.

Conclusion
With the proposal now in the government’s hands, residents are eagerly awaiting an official announcement on the legalisation of these 294 colonies, marking a major step towards urban progress and improved living standards in Gurugram.
