Manila, Dec 5 (IANS) – A Philippine Navy AgustaWestland AW 109 helicopter crashed on Thursday morning at Sangley Point Airport in Cavite province, south of Manila, injuring five people, including two pilots, according to naval spokesperson Commander John Percie Alcos.
Details of the Incident
The helicopter was conducting a functional check flight after a maintenance inspection when it crashed.
Injuries:
Two pilots and three crew members sustained minor cuts, bruises, and a minor fracture.
All injured personnel were conscious and have been transported to a military hospital for medical evaluation.
Airport Operations Suspended
The Philippine Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that all landing and take-off operations at Sangley Point Airport have been suspended due to the disabled military aircraft on the runway.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. The incident highlights ongoing safety challenges faced by the Philippine Navy’s aviation division.
