Could not appear before SIT due to SLP filed in Supreme Court - Majithia

Chandigarh- Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia today informed the SIT probing a NDPS case against him that he would not be able to present himself before the investigating authority as he was present in Delhi to assist his lawyers in the special leave petition filed against him in the Supreme Court by the State government to cancel his regular bail in the NDPS case.

A communication in this regard was sent to the SIT by Mr Bikram Majithia’s counsel Damambir Singh Sobti.

The communication said the SIT was aware of the court hearing in the Supreme Court and had deliberately misused its powers to prevent Mr Majithia from seeking remedies available to him as per law. It said the SAD leader had appeared before all SITS formed by the State to probe the case registered under the NDPS Act and that the latest attempt to ensure his presence before the SIT today was aimed at scuttling his right to have access to law.

Asserting that no fair investigation could be made by the SIT which was being controlled by the chief minister, the communication said an attempt was also being made to set up a false plea of non cooperation. “The Chairman of the SIT is on record to have said the non cooperation of Mr Majithia will be pleaded”. It asserted that the Akali leader was rightfully in Delhi to assist his lawyers and would not be able to present himself before the SIT today.
