Gurugram Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesady announced 'Shaurya Award' to students in the name of 71 personnel of the state police force who laid down their lives while protecting society and maintaining law and order in the state.

Under this award, a prize money of Rs 11,000 in memory of a police martyr will be given to a student for courageous deeds every year in a village block where the school is located and where a martyr studied during his childhood.

Chandigarh, A special CBI court in Haryana's Panchkula town on Friday convicted Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for the murder of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.

Three others, who were close aides of the sect chief, were also convicted by the court.

Krishan Lal, Kuldeep and Nirmal, who were present in the court, were immediately taken into custody by the police and shifted to the Ambala jail.

Panchkula The son of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chandra Chhatrapati, who was murdered by aides of convicted Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in 2002, on Friday demanded capital punishment for the disgraced self-styled godman.

After a special CBI court here convicted Ram Rahim and three others in the murder case of the journalist, his son Anshul Chhatrapati told media: "Such a man is not fit to live in our society. We demand that he should be given capital punishment."

Chandigarh, In a relief to former Haryana Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday stayed the report of the Justice Dhingra Commission of Inquiry into the land scam in Gurugram.

A division bench, which saw the sealed copy of the report, said that the Commission's report could not be implemented as such.

Chandigarh, Security has been beefed up in Rohtak and Sirsa towns in Haryana ahead of the judgment of a CBI court against Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the murder case of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.

The judgment is likely to be pronounced by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Panchkula, adjoining Chandigarh, on January 11.

Chandigarh, Three headless bodies were found inside a plastic drum lying near a canal in Haryana's Bhiwani district on Friday, police said.

The bodies, which were dumped along the Bhiwani-Rohtak highway, were found by people in Kharak village of Bhiwani, some 300 km from here, who then informed the police.

The victims include a girl aged 10-12 years and a small child, police official Prem Singh said.

Jhajjar Eight persons, including seven women, were killed and ten critically injured in a massive pile-up of around 50 vehicles because of dense fog on the National Highway 71 in Haryana.

The accident occurred on Monday morning on the Rewari-Rohtak-Jalandhar highway near Jhajjar flyover.

The eight people who died were travelling in an SUV from their village in Kirdodh in Jhajjar, to outer Delhi's Najafgarh for a condolence visit when it was crushed between a tractor trolley carrying building material and a truck, police said.

New Delhi, The National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Jhajjar, Haryana, which is also India's largest cancer hospital, opened for public service on Tuesday with the formal inauguration to be held in January.

The NCI, which is a project under Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will be headed by Dr G.K. Rath who is also the chief of Institute Rotary Cancer hospital at AIIMS.

Chandigarh, Haryana Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya on Thursday approved prosecution of Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in the Associated Journals Ltd (AJL) case on illegal re-allotment of land to the promoters of The National Herald newspaper.

The state vigilance bureau in May 2016 had registered the case against Hooda for cheating and corruption in the allotment of land to the AJL in Panchkula city near here.

HUDA officials and office-bearers of AJL were also charged with illegal re-allotment of the plot in 2005.
