Dalai Lama lays foundation stone for South Asia hub

Hyderabad, Tibet's spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a South Asia hub of the Dalai Lama Centre For Ethics and Transformative Values here.

Telangana Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali and Industry Minister K.T. Rama Rao were also present at the groundbreaking ceremony at Madhapur, the IT hub.

The South Asia hub is coming up on five acres of land allotted by the state government.

The Dalai Lama later delivered a public talk on "Ethics, Values and Well-being".

The Nobel Laureate, who arrived here on Saturday, went around the facility and addressed Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers and trainee officers from Bhutan, the Maldives and Nepal.

According to Tenzin Priyadarshi, the Centre's President and CEO, the Centre designs and disseminates programmes that are most relevant to the issues facing humanity.

"Since its inception 2009 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Centre has been a driving force in fostering individual and organisational ethics and value-driven leadership," he said.
