World Blood Donor Day celebrated at Govt. Multispeciality Hospital

Chandigarh: World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on 14th June to thank Voluntary non remunerated blood donors for their life saving gift of Blood. The theme of this year’s compagin is “Give blood and keep the world beating."

Dr. Amandeep Kang, Director Health Services & Family Welfare, U.T Chandigarh inaugurated the World Blood Donor Day Function in the auditorium of GMSH 16. Camp Organizers who have been organizing Blood Donation Camps during the ongoing Covid pandemic for GMSH 16 Blood Bank were honoured with an appreciation certificate. The efforts of these organizers during the lockdown were lauded. Their efforts helped the blood bank to maintain stocks of blood so that the needy patients could be transfused blood. Emphasis was laid on donating blood voluntarily. The essential contribution of blood by young blood donors helps to keep the world pulsating by saving lives and improving others health and youth have a great potential for promoting health of citizens.

The Medical Superintendent Dr. V.K Nagpal and Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Parmjit Singh also graced the occasion and encouraged the donors and organizers. An In house Blood donation camp was also organized in association with State Bank of India under supervision of Dr Simerjit Kaur Gill, I/C Blood Bank in which Staff members of GMSH-16 enthusiastically participated. 50 units were collected for the needy patients. The regular donors were honored and thanked for their invaluable gift of life. The need for committed, regular and safe donors and community participation for holding regular blood donation camps to maintain adequate supply of blood was highlighted which helps in saving the lives of many patients suffering from severe anemia, cancer, Thallasaemia, accidents, obstetric patients etc.
