Chandigarh Press Club demands action against guilty police officials

Expressing serious concern over the lathicharge by the UT police on journalists and photojournalists, who were covering the protest by PU students yesterday, a delegation of Chandigarh Press Club today met with the UT DGP Tajender Luthra.

The delegation submitted a memorandum to the DGP and demanded action against the culprits and sought a conducive atmosphere for free and fair functioning of the media in the Chandigarh.

On this occasion, Dainik Bhaskar's photojournalist Ashwani Rana, who also got injured, informed the DGP how police officials and PU security staff knowingly targeted journalists, who were only performing their duties.

The delegation also submitted photographs of those people who attacked Journalists during protest in PU yesterday.

The DGP has assured the delegation that guilty will not be spared. The DGP also assured that a circular will be issued to UT police to ensure safety of journalists during such protest in future.
