45,216 children immunized on day one of Pulse Polio Campaign under National Immunization Day

Chandigarh, March 10, 2019: National Immunization Day is being organized throughout the country from 10th March-12th March 2019z 45, 216 children were immunized on day one of Pulse Polio Campaign under National Immunization Day.

Smt. Lippi Parida, wife of Adviser to Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh visited the Pulse Polio booth, Sector 8, Chandigarh and immunized the children. She has appealed to all the residents of the city to get their children in the age group 0- 5 years immunized to achieve 100% coverage during the drive.
 
As a commitment for this National cause, Dr. G. Dewan, Director Health & Family Welfare cum Mission Director - National Health Mission and other senior health officials spearheaded the campaign and visited various booths to boost the morale of the volunteers who are contributing in making this campaign effectively successful.

Sh. Rajesh Kumar Kalia, Mayor, Area Councilors Sh. Anil Kumar Dube, Smt. Heera Negi, Smt. Sheela Devi, Smt. Chanderwati Shukla, Sh. Dalip Sharma, Sh. Hardeep Singh, Smt. Gurbax Rawat, Sh. Shakti Prakash Devshali, Pradhan of Shahpur Colony, Mrs. Surjeet Kaur Sandhu, Gurudwara Incharge of Sector 35, Pradhan of Shastri Nagar, Chairman of Market 38, Sarpanch Hukum Chand vaccinated the eligible children in their area thereby giving an additional boost to the campaign and motivating the residents in availing this benefit for their eligible children.

Approximately 450 Polio booths were setup by the Health Department in the city apart from deploying 11 teams at Transit points. Approximately 100 Sector Supervisors monitored the booth activity for which approx 960 teams of vaccinators were deployed from 9 am to 4 pm.

Special emphasis was laid in the Urban slums/colonies/villages for ensuring that no child is left unimmunized in order to achieve 100% coverage during the 3-day campaign.  

Door to door activity under this campaign will be done on March 11 and March 12 to ensure that all children are covered for Polio drops who could not avail the same during the booth activity. All children irrespective of any State are also being given Polio drops.

The highly appreciated and innovative project “TAARE ZAMEEN PAR-A NIGHT VIGIL” to cover those children which are accompanied by the parents during the day and come to halt at the various odd points of the city will also be conducted. To carry out this activity, 5 teams will be deputed from 9 pm to 11 pm w.e.f March 10th and will move around in different parts of the city where the homeless/nomads/ rag pickers/ beggars etc tend to settle down with their children in night hours including the RaineBaseras.

Universal Immunization Programme is a flagship programme of Honorable Prime Minister and Govt. of India is stressing upon 100% coverage of immunization, UT Chandigarh has already achieved it for Routine Immunization and 100% saturation in Mission Indradhanush.
