New York, Nov 16 (IANS) – Former President Donald Trump has appointed Steven Cheung, who served as his chief spokesperson during the 2024 campaign, as the White House Director of Communications for his incoming administration. Cheung, a key figure in Trump’s media strategy, will return to the White House with the title of Assistant to the President and Director of Communications, a position he held during Trump’s first term.
Cheung’s career has been marked by a strong command of strategic messaging, handling rapid response and planning for the Trump administration in 2017. Known for his blunt communication style, he played a pivotal role during Trump’s campaign and in handling high-profile controversies, such as Trump’s court appearances in New York.
Prior to joining Trump’s team, Cheung had a diverse background in Republican campaigns and served as Communications Director for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He first joined Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016, and after holding various roles in the White House, he started his own company, which later supported Trump’s 2020 campaign.
Despite his return to the 2024 campaign, Cheung’s outspoken style drew attention as he frequently issued sharp statements against opponents and the media. His work will now be primarily behind the scenes, focusing on media outreach, speechwriting, and maintaining the administration’s public messaging.
While Trump has yet to announce a Press Secretary to handle daily press briefings, Cheung’s appointment signals Trump’s commitment to a robust and unfiltered communication strategy.
