Bucharest, Nov 25 (IANS) — Romania’s incumbent Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, leader of the Social Democratic Party, has emerged as the front-runner in the first round of the presidential election, securing 25% of the vote, according to exit polls.
Elena Lasconi, representing the Save Romania Union, follows with 18%, while independent candidate Calin Georgescu garnered 16%, as reported by a poll from the Center for Urban and Regional Sociology (CURS).
The election, held on Sunday, saw over 18 million registered voters participate. Romania’s presidency has a five-year term limit, with presidents allowed to serve up to two consecutive terms.
